• The Ten Steps to starting on EVO:

1. Go to http://evo.caltech.edu
2. Click ENTER; the screen will change to give you 5 large buttons
3. choose “Register”; accept the certificates
4. Fill in the boxes that appear
5. Choose Start from the main screen
6. A box will pop up about starting Koala; click “OK”
7. various boxes will pop up
8. It will take some time but you will hear a guitar strum and then a screen will pop up for you to give your login and password; do so
9. You will eventually be in “Universe” – you can chat with whoever is also in it
10. Above that there are meetings to choose; choose the meeting you would like to enter

There are some special requirements for the Masterclass to which mentors at US (and other) Institutes ought to pay attention:

• To make sure you can connect succesfully, carefully read the EVO Checklist
• Get on EVO using the EVO User Guide for Masterclass users
• Get the right audio peripherals: here are some recommendations
• For your EVO Test, read parts 1 and 2 of Video Linkup Tests and Instructions
• Really get to know EVO with the EVO Video Tutorial
• Learn how to use The EVO Phone Bridge

• Start EVO at least 15 min before the scheduled time to deal with unforseen glitches
• Do a computer restart before you connect
• Processor: faster is better
• RAM: less isn't more, more is more…you should have at least 1 MB and the more the better
• Use an echo-cancelling microphone if possible; if not (sigh), mute your mic when not talking and/or use a headset
