COLA: COSM Outreach to Los Angeles
Physics and Mathematics Workshops for LA Area High School Teachers
|
|
What is COLA?
COLA is a collaboration between high school physics teachers in Virginia
and Southern California to find hands-on and minds-on activities for
students to improve their learning in physics and mathematics.
Teachers work together in workshops that meet during the school year at an
LA-area university. Materials and stipends are provided.
COLA is sponsored by the Hampton University Center for the study
of the Origin and Structure of Matter with the collaboration of the QuarkNet center at
the University of California at Los Angeles, the QuarkNet center at the University of California at
Irvine, and the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary at Loyola Marymount
University.
What are the benefits to Los Angeles physics teachers?
- Activities to help students succeed in mathematics and science
- Possible recertification points
- A collaborative network with research physicists and high school physics teachers
- Professional development
- A chance to find new ways to improve practical physics education
- Connections to cutting-edge physics
- Stipends and materials provided
