PIE: Physics Is Elementary
Physics and Mathematics Workshops for Elementary School Teachers

What is PIE?
PIE is a collaboration between high school physics teachers and
elementary school teachers to find hands-on and minds-on activities for
students to meet Grade 4-5 SOL objectives in science and mathematics.
Teachers work together in workshops that meet once
per month during the school year. Materials and stipends are provided.
PIE is sponsored by the Hampton University Center for the study
of the Origin and Structure of Matter.

What next?
2008-2009 Schedule:
There are six Saturday sessions which meet from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon at Hampton University. Workshop dates are
- November 22, 2008
- December 13, 2008
- January 10, 2009
- February 21, 2009
- March 7, 2009
- April 4, 2009
Participating teachers are expected to attend at least 5 of the 6 workshop meetings. Stipends are paid based on workshop days attended.
